How It All Started
It all began in October 2023 with ANA #0. Created as exclusive merch for the Australian symphonic metal band ANA, this comic combined manga-inspired storytelling with a Western art style. Fans loved it, and the 150-copy print run sold out in just five months. It was the perfect start for a publisher that thrives on blending different art forms.
Then came Gods Among Men #1, which launched at Supanova Melbourne in April 2024. Written by The Mak Bros., this gritty, true-crime narco-noir comic was like Breaking Bad meets Trainspotting. Its Kickstarter campaign blew up, hitting full funding in an hour and trending globally for 24 hours. The comic didn’t just win over fans—it was featured in Happy Mag’s Best Books of 2024 and covered by outlets like Comics Beat and Near Mint Condition.
By mid-2024, Cynation Comics had sold over 600 copies and expanded into 31 stores across Australia and Malaysia, including comic shops, bookstores, and even record stores. Their mix of great storytelling and clever marketing is a winning combo.
